St. Thomas students: Ready to
take the challenge?
The University of St. Thomas Challenge Day, scheduled for March
12-13, is an opportunity for students to engage in an experience
through reflection, dialogue and writing to raise awareness of
each person's impact on his or her community.
On March 12, student Challenge Day teams will have an
opportunity to hear from one of the first people to walk through
a newly opened door. Minnijean Brown-Trickey will give an
inspiring talk about the ongoing challenge of diversity. Brown-Trickey
will deliver the 14th annual Luann Dummer Lecture. She one of
the Little Rock Nine -- nine African-American students, who on
Sept. 25, 1957, under the watch of 1,200 armed soldiers and a
worldwide audience, helped desegregate Little Rock (Ark.)
Central High School. She will join Challenge Day participants
for lunch the following day.
Challenge Day is an event that takes place over a 24-hour period
and that may change your life. The event starts with dinner and
speaker on Wednesday, March 12, and culminates with the
lunchtime activity from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13.
Challenge Day includes dinner, speaker, event T-shirt and lunch
activity. Students are invited to register (space is limited;
first come, first served) in teams of four to six people by
Friday, Feb. 29.
