Expectations of CultureLink

CultureLink - Expectations and Policies

American students, Staff/Faculty members and other participants of CultureLink are expected :

  • to maintain regular relationships with a student throughout the year and meet at least once a month;
  • to facilitate the student’s adjustment to a new cultural and academic environment;
  • to introduce the student to American culture;
  • to participate in special events organized by OISS;
  • to respect religious and political beliefs of the student, as well as his/her cultural traditions.

American students, Staff/Faculty members and other participants of Culture Link are NOT expected:

  • to provide the student with permanent or long-term housing;
  • to assist him/her with any material or financial support including co-signing any loans;
  • to provide employment or otherwise inappropriate favors.

International students are expected:

  • to maintain regular communication with their CultureLink partners and meet at least once a month;
  • to respect traditions, religious and political beliefs of their partners;
  • to facilitate a cultural exchange;
  • to be flexible in perception of another culture.

International students should NOT :

  • ask for material or financial assistance including co-signing of any loans;
  • ask for permanent or long-term housing;
  • ask for employment or otherwise inappropriate favors.
