About Us - Sarah Ligday
Hola!
My name is Sarah Ligday and I am the Assistant Director of OISS. I was born and raised in Young America, MN and yes that is the real name of the town! It is about 45 minutes southwest of the Twin Cities. For my undergraduate degree I received a double major in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. I was able to study abroad in Guanajuato, Mexico which was an invaluable experience for me. I then received my master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Dayton.
I have moved around a lot during the past 7 years! I have lived in North Dakota, Ohio, California and lastly the Azores Islands! Living in California was a wonderful experience for me. Being an international student adviser at UC Davis allowed me to work with over 1,700 international students! I really miss the warm weather, San Francisco, camping in Lake Tahoe and the wine valleys! After living in CA, my husband and I, along with our 8 week old daughter and Binxie our Maine Coon cat moved to the Azores. The Azores are a group of 9 islands located 900 miles off the coast of Portugal. Living on the 3rd largest island, Terceira, was an amazing journey for me and my family and we miss the slow pace of life, the beautiful people and the wonderful coffee! During my time on Terceira I had the luxury of staying home with my daughter Lucy. She is currently 17 months old and is the joy of my life. She brings me happiness, laughter and a sense of calmness in this hectic world. I enjoy nothing more than to view the world through my daughter’s eyes; everything is a new adventure to her!
Reading is a huge part of my life and I particularly navigate towards non-fiction books. I love being surrounded by books and to leisurely spend hours in a local book store. Spending time with my family is very important to me and I never take one moment for granted. I am also a huge fan of singing karaoke and I even have my own machine with two microphones!
