Workshop on 'Building Cultural Competencies' is Nov. 15

Last Thursday's march demonstrated "the real St. Thomas" as Father Dease said, but it also challenged everyone to assess what they as individuals can do better in their daily lives. Respond to the challenge and consider attending a session on "Building Cultural Competencies," presented by Dr. Lawrence Potter Jr., executive director of institutional diversity, and offered by the Leadership Academy.

The session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 15, in Room 100, McNeely Hall.

In this session, you will explore the nature of cultural identity and cultural competence and how they shape educational and personal experiences within the pluralistic context of a changing workforce.

Participate in activities that will help reframe your understanding of equity and social justice, and begin to formulate a transformative vision that will clarify your responsibilities for providing empowering educational and working experiences to all students and employees.
