Will Robots Rule the World? Find out at talk April 12 St. Thomas Newsroom April 7, 2000 Dr. Thomas Sturm will discuss “Will Robots Rule the World?” at the next Quantitative Methods and Computer Science Department colloquium at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in Room 275, Owens Science Hall. Bill Joy, chief technologist at Sun Microsystems, published an article in Wired Magazine that is receiving a lot of attention. He came to the conclusion that unbridled growth of technology would lead to the destruction of the human species. Sturm will discuss the writings and technological trends that have lead Joy to his conclusion. You can read the article at Wired. Sturm earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from St. Thomas and master’s and doctoral degrees in computer science from the University of Minnesota. He is a professor in the QMCS Department at St. Thomas, which he joined in 1971. Among other things, he teaches robotics courses.
