With graduation just weeks away, many students are seriously contemplating their future right now. From FOX 9 News, a new poll by the Associated Press shows 18 to 24 year olds more pessimistic about their economic futures compared to a similar poll back in April of 2007.
In all, the poll offered some bleak numbers:
- 45 percent of the young people polled expect it will be harder for them to earn enough money for their desired lifestyle when compared to their parents.
- 56 percent believe it will be more difficult to buy a house
- 42 percent say it will be harder to raise a family
- 53 percent think it will be harder to save money to retire.
“It's tweaking the dream a little bit. The American Dream of today's 18- to 24-year-olds might be a little different then 18- to 24-year-olds from 20 years ago,” professor Lisa Waldner, chair of the Sociology Department at the University of St. Thomas told Fox 9.
I would say that other news suggests though that the outlook is good. UST business faculty have been commenting on the recent up-tick in hiring in the Twin Cities.
