The University of St. Thomas will continue a centuries-old tradition of the Catholic Church with a solemn vespers service at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas.

The vespers will recall All Souls’ Day, which is celebrated Nov. 2 each year to remember the dead and celebrate the communion of saints. So not to interfere with weekend liturgies at the university, evening vespers will be held Nov. 7.

Father Dennis Dease, president of St. Thomas, will preside. Music will be provided by the university’s Women’s Choir, handbell ringers, organist and cantor. Prayer cards will be distributed at the service, and those present will be invited to examine a book of remembrance in honor of deceased members of the St. Thomas community — students, faculty, staff, alumni and benefactors, and their family members and friends.

A reception follows the vespers service in the nearby Rogge-Leyden Dining Room of Murray-Herrick Campus Center. The public is welcome. For further information, call (651) 962-6981.
