UST Men's Lacrosse Club wins two fall tourneys

From the Lacrosse Club

The St. Thomas Men's Lacrosse Club captured two impressive fall tournament wins. The tournaments were held back-to-back during the weekends of Sept. 30 and Oct. 7. The team won the Mad City Invitational in Madison, against tough competition from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Northern Illinois, Madison B and Western Illinois. Then the team defeated rival St. John's to win the Hot Dish Classic in Brooklyn Park.

In the Mad City Invitational championship, the Tommies were down 6-2 against Western Illinois, but made a 7-1 run in the second half and went on to win the game 9-7.

In the Hot Dish Classic Oct.7 to 8, UST played three consecutive games on Saturday and beat Wisconsin-Stout Sunday morning before facing St. John's in the championship game. SJU maintained possession throughout the championship and made big saves, yet this wasn't enough to conquer UST's defense.

The Hot Dish Classic showcased top Minnesota talent at both the collegiate level and the Minnesota state high school level. St. Thomas played a total of five games facing Minnesota State-Moorhead, Northern Aire Pools, Bethel, and University of Wisconsin-Stout, before taking on St. John's University. The annual classic is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
