The University of St. Thomas Dance Team will compete in the National Dance Alliance’s 2001 College National Competition on April 5 and 6 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The team leaves for Florida on April 4 and returns on April 8.

Placing ninth out of 19 teams in the College National Video Entry, the team qualified for entry in the Florida competition. They will compete in Dance Division II against rivals such as Minnesota State University at Mankato (last year’s champions), University of Central Oklahoma and University of Minnesota-Duluth. If they place within the top nine teams in the preliminary round, they will compete on the beachside main stage in the televised final round.

This is the first year in which the Dance Team has traveled outside Minnesota to compete; however, they have done well in other regional competitions: St. Ben’s Invitational Qualifying Round for UPA AmeriCup in 2001, UPA AmeriCup in 2000, and UPA AmeriCup in 1999 in which they were Grand National Champions.

Wish them luck in Daytona Beach. Break a leg, Dance Team!
