UST-CSC Theater Department to present ‘Painting Churches' April 25-28
The joint Theater Department of the University of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine will present Tina Howe’s 1983 play, ‘‘Painting Churches, ’’ at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, April 25-28, in Frey Theater at St. Catherine, 2004 Randolph Ave., St. Paul. (Please note: A schedule released earlier in the theater season also listed an April 29 matinee performance; that performance has been canceled.)
"Painting Churches" is a comic drama focusing on an art teacher and portrait painter, Margaret Church, who must help her aging parents move out of their house while struggling to remain focused on her work. She does so by painting a portrait of her parents, depicting their decline but also preserving a part of her past. The play reveals the influence of childhood patterns on adult behavior and presents a realistic view of the challenges faced by disabled elderly people and their caretakers.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and free to students, faculty and staff with ID from the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (St. Thomas, St. Catherine, Augsburg College, Macalester College and Hamline University). Seating is limited; reservations will be taken at The O'Shaughnessy Ticket Office at St. Catherine, (651) 690-6700.
Cast and crew members include: Helen Buron, a St. Catherine junior, as Margaret ("Mags") Church; St. Thomas sophomore Chris Nier as Gardner Church; and St. Catherine freshman Kelsye Gould as Fannie Church. Millie Annis, a St. Catherine junior, is assistant director. Andrea Wylie, a St. Catherine senior, is the stage manager. St. Thomas freshman Brandyce Edson is the assistant stage manager. Dr. Amy Kritzer, of the Theater Department faculty, is the director.
