UST Crew posts wins in Oklahoma

After a week of training in Austin, Texas, averaging 40 kilometers a day on the water, the UST crew team traveled to the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta March 22 in Oklahoma City, the UST team's first spring regatta.

To open the day, UST boated two varsity men's fours against Oklahoma City University. Dima Koshevy, Kyle Smisek and Jon Athmann were in UST's top boat, stroked by James Portmann, which took open water and a 40.1 second victory over OCU. The second varsity four also finished ahead of OCU by 12.3 seconds.

Another UST win came from John Meyer and Spencer Nelson, who took first place in the men's pair race.

The women's varsity eight was able to redeem last year's loss to OCU. After being down by two seats to OCU's top varsity eight, the Tommies pulled ahead in the last 500 meters to obtain a narrow 0.8 second victory.

The crew team's next regatta is the Upper Midwest Collegiate Championships on April 13 in Omaha, Neb.
