University to test its Emergency Notification System Wednesday

The University of St. Thomas will conduct a required, annual test of its Emergency Notification System this Wednesday, Jan. 21.

All personal cell phones that have been registered with the St. Thomas Emergency Notification System, and all St. Thomas e-mail accounts, will receive a text message that day.

Both the e-mail and the cell-phone text messages will say: "TEST ONLY "UST NOTIFICATION SYSTEM" TEST ONLY *** NO ACTION REQUIRED".

Voice messages will not be sent to campus telephones or to cell phones.

The Emergency Notification System, created in fall 2007, only will be used by the university's Department of Public Safety in the most extreme cases involving the safety of the university community. It will not be used, for example, for school-closing announcements because of winter weather.

Information on how to register your cell phone with the Emergency Notification System can be found on the UST Cares Web site here. Information about how the system works can be found in this Bulletin Today story from December 2007.
