University of St. Thomas School of Law Negotiation Team Repeats as Regional Champion

A University of St. Thomas School of Law Negotiation Team is advancing to national competition after winning the regional American Bar Association Law Student Division Negotiation Competition held at the University of Minnesota earlier this month. Twenty-two teams from schools as close as the William Mitchell College of Law and as far away as Texas Tech University School of Law participated in the competition.

Jake Saufley and Joseph Grodahl Biever were members of one of two St. Thomas teams, and the team that brought home this year’s championship. They are coached by Adjunct Professor Bruce Grosland.

Saufley and Biever defeated a team from the University of Houston Law Center in the final round to move on to the national competition, which will take place in New Orleans in February 2012. The St. Thomas team will represent ABA Region 7 at the national competition, which will be held in conjunction with the ABA midwinter convention. The winning national team will compete in Belfast, Ireland, at the international competition in July 2012.

St. Thomas has been in the competition eight times, earning a berth at the national competition five times and winning three regional championships.
