University of St. Thomas and College of St. Catherine announce 2006-07 theater season
The joint Theater Department of the University of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine will present four productions during the 2006-07 academic year.
Mark your calendars for:
- 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 18-21, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, in Frey Theater at St. Catherine, 2004 Randolph Ave.: A psychological thriller, “The Haunting of Hill House,” adapted for the stage in 1964 by F. Andrew Leslie from the 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson. It’s all here, going bump in the night, just in time for Halloween: the remote, abandoned, old mansion whose previous residents were mad, suicidal and violent; the researcher trying to prove the supernatural forces at work; the scary house’s evil forces goaded to a new, fatal fury … . Bring a friend.
- 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 15-18, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, in Foley Theater on St. Thomas’ St. Paul campus, 2115 Summit Ave.: The 1982 play, “The Dining Room,” by A.R. Gurney, is a collection of 18 vignettes that provide a series of glimpses into the human condition and the joys, sorrows, love and sadness that accompany family life. The play visits a host of characters, but the setting – at a dining room table – remains the same.
- 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, March 7-10, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007, in Foley Theater: Thorton Wilder’s 1938 Pulitzer Prize-winning “Our Town” is an American classic. Revisit George Gibbs, Emily Webb and “Grover’s Corners, Sutton County, New Hampshire, United States of America, Continent of North America, Western Hemisphere, the Earth, the Solar System, the Universe, the Mind of God.”
- 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, April 25-28, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2007, in Frey Theater: Tina Howe’s 1983 play, “Painting Churches.” In this comic drama, a daughter helps her aging parents move out of their house while struggling to remain focused on her work as a painter. She does so by painting a portrait of her parents, depicting their decline but also preserving a part of her past.
Tickets for each play are $5 for general admission and free for students, faculty and staff with ID from the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (St. Thomas, St. Catherine, Augsburg College, Macalester College and Hamline University).
