Nathan Skemp, a student in business law, was chosen as a Young Scholar for summer 2009. The Young Scholars program awards individual grants to undergraduate studentsat St. Thomas who are interested in spending an entire summer working closely with a professor on a significant research project or creative activity. Grants include a summer stipend of $4,000 and free housing on campus, if needed, from late May to mid-August. Young Scholars are expected to work on their research projects full-time over the course of at least 10 weeks and to present the results of their work at a poster session in September. Susan Marsnik, J.D., associate professor of ethics and business law, was Skemp’s faculty mentor. She reports, “I am particularly proud of Nate because he completed a great deal of research to put together his proposal.” Skemp used his grant to complete a paper to submit to an Academy of Legal Studies in Business student paper contest.
