Tommies win second straight lacrosse national championship

The University of St. Thomas club lacrosse team capped an undefeated season by winning its second straight national championship with a 12-9 triumph over Utah Valley University, Orem, Utah, on Saturday, May 15,  in Denver, Colo.

The Tommies swept through the 16-team Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II national tournament, played May 11-15:

  • Wtih a 22-3 first-round victory over Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas, on May 11.
  • In the quarterfinals on May 12, the Tommies defeated Grove City College, Grove City, Penn., 16-6.
  • In the semifinals May 14, the Tommies downed Davenport University, Grand Rapids, Mich., 17-9.
  • Lacrosse Magazine covered the Tommies 12-9 victory over Utah Valley on Saturday.

Not only did the the Tommies finish the season with a perfect 26-0 record and another national title but also coach Peter Moosbrugger was named the Division II coach of the year.
