The All College Council, in association with the Student Coalition for Social Justice and Campus Ministry, kicked off the Tommie Jubilee Pledge campaign at the university’s Opening Celebration on Sept. 16. Signing the pledge that day were 95 members of the campus community.

Pope John Paul II has invited all people to celebrate the anniversary year of Jesus’ birth 2,000 years ago with renewed spiritual commitment. The Tommie Jubilee Pledge is an opportunity for all members of the St. Thomas community to commit themselves to the vision of the Jubilee in the new millennium. The components of the pledge include prayer, education, social justice, service, charity, advocacy and encouragement.

Students, faculty and staff who sign the pledge will receive a button that says, “I took the Tommie Jubilee Pledge,” as a reminder of their commitment to the Jubilee year.

The ACC encourages all members of the UST community to sign and act on the Tommie Jubilee Pledge and participate in the Jubilee events taking place throughout the year.

For more information about the Tommie Jubilee Pledge or additional Jubilee year events, please contact Jon Merchant, (651) 962-6145, or Erich Rutten, (651) 962-6566. Tommie Jubilee Pledges are available outside the ACC Office, Room 110, Murray-Herrick Campus Center.
