Timberwolves’ president, owner to speak at First Friday Luncheon May 6 St. Thomas Newsroom April 27, 2005 Timberwolves’ president, owner to speak at First Friday Luncheon May 6Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx president Chris Wright and Timberwolves majority owner Glen Taylor will discuss the Timberwolves’ successes and challenges at the University of St. Thomas Alumni Association’s next First Friday Luncheon. The luncheon begins at noon Friday, May 6, at the St. Paul Radisson Riverfront, 11 E. Kellogg Blvd. Wright, president since 2004, was previously senior vice president and chief marketing officer. Wright came to the United States from England in 1978. Before joining the Timberwolves, he spent three years working for the state of Minnesota, first as a consultant working on bids for major national and international events, including programming for the $17.4 million National Sports Center in Blaine. He also served as general manager for two soccer teams – the Pittsburgh Spirit (1981-1986) and the Minnesota Strikers (1986-1987). Taylor has been majority owner of the Timberwolves since March 1995. He added the title of NBA team owner to a list that already included international business executive, state senator, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is chairman of the board of Mankato-based Taylor Corp. Its companies are involved in the printing, marketing and electronics industries with more than 70 operating divisions in 19 states, three Canadian provinces, the United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico. On first Fridays of each month during the academic year, the St. Thomas Alumni Association’s First Friday Luncheon Series offers lunch and a speaker of current interest. St. Thomas alumni and friends, along with the general public, are invited. Cost of each luncheon and presentation is $20.Students can attend First Friday Luncheons at half price. Tickets are $10 with a UST student ID. Student tickets must be purchased in the Box Office by the end of the day Friday, April 29.A free shuttle bus departs at 11:30 a.m. from the Summit Avenue arches on the St. Paul campus. The shuttle will return to the St. Paul campus after the luncheon.
