The Scroll: High-risk drinking serious, sometimes deadly, problem on campuses

Madonna McDermott, director of the Student Health Service and Wellness Center at St. Thomas, doesn't mince words when she talks about high-risk drinking (also known as binge drinking) on college campuses.

It's a serious and, on occasion, deadly problem, she says.

What to do? McDermott writes in The Scroll today that lowering the drinking age, as some have suggested, is not appropriate. But she does applaud attempts to engage people in discussion and debate over the drinking age and problems with high-risk drinking.
