President of UNIAPAC International gives 'Higher Calling of the Entrepreneur' lecture

José Ignacio Mariscal Torroella, president of UNIAPAC International, will give a public lecture titled “The Higher Calling of the Entrepreneur” today, Tuesday, Nov. 17.

The event will be held at 5 p.m. in Thornton Auditorium, followed by a reception in the Founders’ Hall Atrium, Terrence Murphy Hall, Minneapolis campus.

Mariscal will offer his insight into the intersection of international business, corporate responsibility and Christian social thought, especially in light of the current economic situation. Dr. Kenneth Goodpaster, Koch Endowed Chair of Business Ethics at UST’s Opus College of Business, will serve as respondent.

Mariscal is the first Latino American president of UNIAPAC International, a federation of national associations for Christian business leaders. UNIAPAC International promotes a vision of corporate responsibility grounded in Christian social teaching and business practice that serves the individual human person and the common good of the world. 

An architect by profession, Mariscal graduated from the National School of Architecture. He has an M.B.A. from Columbia University and studied in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He is an adviser to businesses such as Bimbo Group, Posadas de Mexico and Clidra Group, among others. He is the former executive president of the Marhnos Group, which is dedicated to real estate development, franchises and construction. He has served as president of the Mexican Institute of Christian Social Doctrine, USEM CD of Mexico and the USEM Confederation. 

The lecture and reception are sponsored by the SAIP Institute at the Opus College of Business and the John A. Ryan Institute for Catholic Social Thought of the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas.
