Swim-a-thon for Ted Mullin Cancer Research Fund is Nov. 6

Swim-a-thon for Ted Mullin Cancer Research Fund is Nov. 6 (date was updated)

From the UST Swimming and Diving Team

The St. Thomas Swimming and Diving Team will join Carleton College, several other MIAC schools, and some NCAA Division III schools around the country to raise money in memory of Carleton team member and two-time captain Ted Mullin, who died this fall after a two-year battle with cancer.

Given the long history of friendship and collegial competition between the St. Thomas and Carleton swimming and diving teams, our plan is to have an hour-of-power relay practice at 4 p.m. central time (to include the east coast schools that are involved) Monday, Nov. 6 (the date was changed from Nov. 7 to Nov. 6).

If you would like to support this effort, look for swimmers over the lunch hours in the Food Court, Scooter's and the Grill. Checks should be made out to the Ted Mullin Cancer Research Fund. We also can accept cash donations, or send checks to coach Tom Hodgson, Mail 4085.

Mullin was originally a member of the class of 2006 but, after taking time off for treatments, he was planning to graduate with the class of 2007. People at Carleton and many others around the MIAC know that Mullin stood out. If you knew him for a few minutes, a few years or even just watched him swim a single race, he was clearly the most dedicated, determined and inspiring swimmer out there.

Mullin approached everything with an admirable intensity and was never one to settle for less than what he knew was possible. While his teammates and friends are struggling with the grief of this tremendous loss, we also are working to direct our energy into events to help others as Mullin would have wanted us to do.
