Students, faculty, staff: Support Toys for Tots; sign up for Night Spike Nov. 17
The Brady Hall Council and the residents of Brady Hall invite you to participate in Night Spike 2006, an annual four-on-four all-night volleyball tournament held to raise money for charity. While in previous years Night Spike has raised up to $3,000 for various charities, this year organizers hope to raise close to $6,000 for Toys for Tots.
Night Spike will be held at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, in the Coughlan Field House, Schoenecker Arena and the O’Shaughnessy Gymnasium. All current students, faculty and staff are invited to form a team. The registration fee is $40 and all proceeds go to Toys for Tots. Teams are encouraged to raise additional money to submit with their application to support this charity. Prizes are awarded to teams that raise the most money.
The winner of this year's tournament will be awarded $400; second place, $125; third place, $50; and fourth place, a package for free products and services.
In addition to the dozens of door prizes and the winners' awards, additional prizes will be awarded to teams who show tremendous spirit. Sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and unique and creative jerseys are encouraged and will be given awards.
Brady Hall will invite the All College Council, STAR, RHA, Student Clubs and Organizations, university departments, and local businesses to support this tradition. Your support will provide food, refreshments and many great door prizes for Night Spike participants.
Registration forms are available at the Koch Commons desk. Mail your completed form and payment to Mike Bush, Mail 3756. Applications must be received by Wednesday, Nov. 15, in order for your team to be eligible for the tournament.
The team captain will be contacted and given the team's start time. The captain must come at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, to Coughlan Field House for check-in and a brief meeting. Keep in mind that the length of the tournament depends on the number of teams registered. If 70 teams sign up, games may not end until 8 a.m.
Toys for Tots is a charity organization that collects new, unwrapped toys each year and distributes them as Christmas gifts to children in the community who may not otherwise receive a Christmas gift. The mission of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy children that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive and patriotic citizens and community leaders.
