The Minnesota Department of Health issued a bulletin this week reporting that the number of influenza cases nationwide already has surpassed last year’s peak levels, reports Madonna McDermott of St. Thomas Student Health Services.

The dominant strain responsible for influenza nationwide was not identified in this year’s vaccine; however, the Center for Disease Control has stated that the current U.S. vaccine will offer some protection against the current strain and will reduce the disease’s severity.

Flu vaccinations for all students are available through Student Health Services. Cost is $12 and can be billed to student accounts. For more information, call (651) 962-6750.
