Strategic Diversity Action Plan presentations scheduled April 4

Strategic Diversity Action Plan presentations scheduled April 4

Over the past year, the Office of Institutional Diversity, in collaboration with several committees, working groups and units, has made meaningful progress toward developing the Strategic Diversity Action Plan, "Striking Balance: Our Commitment to Inclusive Excellence, 2007-2010." This plan is developed, in part, to build upon progress from the previous foundational work in the area of diversity at St. Thomas. The plan provided concrete goals and objectives aimed to move the diversity agenda forward at an institutional level.

The plan presents recommendations shaped by the collective wisdom and efforts of hundreds of St. Thomas students, employees, staff, administrators, alumni and community members. The plan does not represent the consensus of all these voices. Rather, it is a synthesis designed to guide the most immediate next steps of St. Thomas’ desire to be more diverse, inclusive and equitable.

The goals and objectives in this plan are interdependent and must all be given equal concentration. They are intended to be interpreted and effectuated in a manner consistent with applicable law and other university priorities, policies and requirements.

The plan is created around five strategic diversity action areas: institutional climate, culture, and inclusion; recruitment and retention; curricular/co-curricular infusion and transformation; diversity leadership – programs, outreach and development; and  accountability, assessment and continuous improvement.
