Statue of Monsignor Terrence Murphy to be unveiled Oct. 21

A statue of the late Monsignor Terrence Murphy, past president and chancellor of the university, will be unveiled and dedicated at a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in the lower quad outside the entrance to Schoenecker Arena.

Monsignor Terrence Murphy

Father Dennis Dease, St. Thomas president, and Harry McNeely, a UST trustee and chairman emeritus of Meritex Enterprises and McNeely Foundation, will be the featured speakers at the dedication ceremony.

The university community is invited to attend.

In memory of and in tribute to Murphy, McNeely commissioned artist Paul Granlund, who collaborated with artist Nick Legeros, to create a bronze statue of Murphy’s likeness. The statue will be placed in the lower quad of the St. Paul campus temporarily. It will be relocated to its permanent location in front of the undergraduate business building when construction of that facility is completed in fall 2006.
