Staff Mentorship Program application due date extended

The application due date for the 2009-10 Staff Mentorship Program has been extended to Friday, June 26.
Mentoring has long been shown to foster learning and self-improvement for employees at all levels. The goal of the program is to promote professional and personal development among staff by connecting them with others who can advise, coach and guide them, as well as help them understand their work environment. Experienced staff can gain a fresh perspective and develop new relationships. In the end, the university builds a stronger, more cohesive community.
Who can participate?
Any regular full- or part-time staff member who is interested in participating in the Staff Mentorship Program.
What is the time commitment?
There is a one-year commitment, which includes a short training session at the beginning for all who participate. Other time commitments include conversations by phone and e-mail, as well as scheduled meetings for the pair to meet and discuss issues, concerns, goals, etc. Quarterly brown bag luncheons will be held, as well as monthly check-ins to assess progress and assist the mentor-mentee pairs.
When will the program begin?
The mentoring year begins Aug. 12 and continues through June 30, 2010. Within the program, mentoring pairs set their own schedules and participate in formal and informal programming for up to one year.
How do I participate?
Mentors are nominated by a member of the Academic and Administrative Leadership Group or others within the St. Thomas campus community. Potential mentors will complete a skills inventory to help Human Resources match them with an appropriate mentee. Mentors may not mentor more than two mentees concurrently. Staff members interested in becoming a mentee must submit to Human Resources a Mentee Application Form, which includes a skills inventory.
