Five University of St. Thomas School of Law professors will review the impact of recent decisions made by the U.S. Supreme Court from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in Room 235 of the School of Law building on the university’s downtown Minneapolis campus.
The Supreme Court Term Review is being held in observance of Constitution Day, which this year is Friday, Sept. 16. Constitution Day is annually observed to commemorate the formation and signing of the Constitution of the United States on Sept. 17, 1787.
The Supreme Court review is hosted by the St. Thomas chapters of the American Constitution Society and Federalist Society.
Reviewing the cases will be professors Susan Stabile, Mark Osler, Joel Nichols, Mitchell Gordon and Thomas Berg.
They will discuss:
- Wal-Mart v. Dukes (employment discrimination class actions)
- Brown v. Plata (prison overcrowding in California)
- Snyder v. Phelps (military funeral protests)
- IMS Health v. Sorrell (commercial speech)
- Arizona Free Enterprise Club v. Bennett (public campaign financing)
Interesting cases on the court’s upcoming docket also will be noted.
