Security advisory: Thefts from vehicles have increased St. Thomas Newsroom October 25, 1999 The Department of Public Safety has noticed a significant increase in theft from vehicles on the St. Paul campus. There have been 11 reported incidents of theft from vehicles since Oct. 16 to the present. There were a total of five thefts from vehicles reported to Public Safety between Sept. 1-Oct. 16. The location of thefts have been reported in Lots H, N and C, and on Goodrich and Selby avenues. There also have been two reports of attempted theft from vehicles at the Minneapolis campus MEC ramp. The suspect(s) have done significant damage to the vehicles by breaking out windows, damaging dashes to take the radios and ransacking the vehicle for valuables.Prevention tips:Always lock your doors.Keep windows rolled up tight.Never leave valuables in vehicles (especially wallets, purses, money).Never leave property in vehicles (cell phone, CD player, sports equipment).Never leave property in plain view (cell phone cord, CDs, tools).Do not leave valuables in car trunk.If you see any suspicious person(s) loitering or lurking on, or around campus at any time, immediately call the Department of Public Safety at (96)2-5555. Please note the physical description of the suspect(s), the last known location and direction of travel. The sooner that Public Safety is notified of a suspicious person, the better chance of apprehension.
