Talk on the meteorite scientists say caused extinction of dinosaurs is today

Dr. Sean Gulick of the University of Texas at Austin will deliver a lecture, "One Rock to Change the World: The Story of the Chicxulub Impact Crater," at 3:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 11, in 3M Auditorium, Room 150, Owens Science Hall.

The Chicxulub impact crater, located off the Yucatan coast of Mexico, is the accepted site of the meteorite that caused a mass extinction of dinosaurs and other organisms that inhabited the Earth 65 million years ago. Gulick, a marine geologist, has studied geological evidence collected from the crater through the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP); he will share his findings as part of the IODP Distinguished Lecture series.
