School of Education reaccredited
The Unit Accreditation Board of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) ratified the recommendation of the NCATE Board of Examiners last month to continue accreditation for the Professional Education Unit within the University of St. Thomas School of Education.
"The School of Education is blessed to have a faculty and staff who understand the need for mission-driven programs, rigorous assessment, and fair and equitable education. Our continuing accreditation is a demonstration of faculty and staff commitment," said Dr. Bruce Kramer, interim dean of the College of Applied Professional Studies. "Along with passing all six standards with flying colors, the fact that the NCATE Board of Examiners highlighted a strength in technology support is also a remarkable achievement."
The NCATE Board of Examiners conducted an intensive, multiday site visit at St. Thomas in November 2008. NCATE has accredited continuously UST’s School of Education since 1965. UST is one of only 623 NCATE-accredited institutions, which produce two-thirds of the nation's new teacher graduates every year. In addition to NCATE, UST's School of Education is accredited by the state of Minnesota, the Board of Teaching and the Board of School Administrators.
