Register today for fall 2007 Leadership Academy offerings

You are invited to participate in the university's professional development program offered by the Leadership Academy. Go to Training Online for full class descriptions, logistical information and to register. Participation may be limited for some sessions so you are encouraged to check the listings and register early. The Leadership Academy is dedicated to making UST a great place to work and a place where you can do great work.

Here is the list of fall offerings designed and offered exclusively for UST employees:

September

  • "Your Best Self: A Five-Part Series on Motivation," led by Linda Halverson
    9-11 a.m. Mondays, Sept. 17, Oct. 29, Jan. 14, March 10, May 5

    This series is designed to stimulate self-motivation, self-discipline and self-improvement to build on what's best about you.

  • "The Catholic Social Tradition: Implications for Managing at UST," led by Mike Naughton
    9 a.m.-noon Wednesdays, Sept. 26 and Oct. 10

    This two-part session will introduce participants to the basic principles of the social tradition and explore how these principles can and should shape the way we manage on a practical level.

  • "Maximize Your Management Potential," led by Larry Bourgerie
    8:30 a.m.-noon Fridays, Sept. 28, Oct. 5, 12 and 19

    Whether you are a relatively new supervisor or a somewhat experienced manager, this four-part series will give you a deeper understanding of effective tools to maximize your potential and increase your effectiveness as a manager.

October

  • "Management Skills for Administrative Professionals," led by Jerilynn Sushko
    8:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Oct. 2

    This session is designed for all levels of administrative support staff who want to apply proven management techniques to their current job functions or prepare for new job responsibilities.

  • "Defusing Distress and Aggression on Campus," led by Tim Beyer
    10-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4

    Participants in this workshop for managers and staff will examine how to recognize, de-escalate and solve problem situations before they become worse.

  • "Become a Master of Meeting Minutes," led by Ben Shank
    9 a.m.- noon Thursday, Oct. 11

    The overriding goal of this session is to improve the accuracy and quality of all types of meeting minutes.

  • "Building Cultural Competencies," led by Lawrence Potter
    1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23

    Participants will explore the nature of cultural identity and cultural competence and how they shape educational and personal experiences.

  • "The Meaning of Work in the Catholic Tradition," led by Deborah Savage
    8:30 a.m.-noon Wednesdays, Oct. 24 and Nov. 7

    Participants in this two-part series will consider how principles of the Catholic tradition can be brought to bear in their own jobs and how their work can reflect UST's mission.

November

  • "MS Word: Beyond Basics," led by Lief Johnson
    9-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13

    Explore topics and features that will take you beyond the basic word processing of MS Word.

  • "Catholic Beliefs and Practices," led by Gene Scapanski
    1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 13 and 27

    This two-part series will provide a basic orientation to Catholic beliefs and practices and an opportunity for Catholics, those of other traditions, and those of no faith background, to explore what it means to live and work at a Catholic university.

  • "Writing With Impact for Managers," led by Ben Shank
    1-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14

    Managers' writing must deliver results and provide examples of clear communication for others to follow. "Writing With Impact" guides participants to meet these challenges.

  • "Building Cultural Competencies," led by Lawrence Potter
    9 a.m.- noon Thursday, Nov. 15

  • "MS Word: Mail Merge," led by Lief Johnson
