Register online today to volunteer at the UST State Fair booth

Online registration begins today to join the team of volunteers staffing the St. Thomas booth at the Minnesota State Fair.

Under a replica of the arches you’ll speak to potential students, reminisce with alumni and greet general fairgoers. You’ll also have a chance to meet others who work at UST, and share knowledge and pride in the university. As a bonus, you’ll receive a T-shirt and a free entry ticket.

Volunteers at the booth will give away purple UST bags, which may be becoming a collector’s item as the design changes from year to year. Bags will arrive at the booth already de-tissued so that volunteers can still enjoy handing them out to fairgoers without dealing with a tissue paper mess.

The fair will run from Thursday, Aug. 23, through Monday, Sept. 3. Five people will be assigned to each shift. Sign up early to get the date and time that works best for you. Shift times are:

  • 9 a.m. to noon
  • Noon to 3 p.m.
  • 3 to 6 p.m.
  • 6 to 9 p.m.

Employees who wish to volunteer at the booth during their regular work hours must obtain supervisor approval prior to signing up for a shift. Hourly employees may sign up for one three-hour shift during their regular work hours and will be paid the three hours at the booth plus one additional hour to compensate for travel.

Kick-off sessions for training will be offered noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, in 3M Auditorium, Owens Science Hall, on St. Paul’s south campus, and noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in Room 252, Terrence Murphy Hall, on the Minneapolis campus. Please plan to come, even if you’ve volunteered in the past.

So register here now – the shifts will fill fast!
