Public Safety shares report of hate crime at Macalester

The St. Thomas Public Safety office informs the university community of a recent hate crime reported to the Macalester College Security Office.

The Macalester security office received a report that sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, Sept. 8 or 9, a student's car was vandalized with homophobic graffiti. The car was parked near the campus in the vicinity of Summit Avenue and Fry Street.

Macalester officials expressed their dismay and concern and reiterated the college's support for all members of its community to live and study in a safe environment. An investigation is under way, and anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Macalester Security Office at (651) 696-6555.

The St. Thomas Public Safety Department reminds the UST community of St. Thomas' Statement on Offensive Behavior, which was developed and approved in 2002 and added to the university's student handbooks.
