Donna Gilliland, Charles J. Keffer Library, has just completed a three-year term of service on the Best Books for Young Adults Committee of the American Library Association. For the next two years, she will work on the Outstanding Books for the College Bound Committee. The job of this committee is to edit a recommended reading list by the same name, which the association publishes periodically.
Dr. Thomas Musil, director of the Shenehon Center for Real Estate Education, College of Business, has been appointed as a National Association of Industrial and Office Properties Distinguished Fellow. Selection is based on an individual's contribution to the field through research and educational achievements. The Distinguished Fellows Program serves as a bridge between the practicing commercial real estate community and the academic community. Distinguished Fellows are asked to contribute articles to Development Magazine or the NAIOP Web site; give presentations to the NAIOP board of directors or national forums; participate on national committees; and provide advice, feedback or information to NAIOP regarding research being conducted in commercial real estate. NAIOP is the trade association for developers, owners, investors and asset managers in industrial, office and related commercial real estate.
Sister Katarina Schuth, O.S.F., Endowed Chair for the Social Scientific Study of Religion, addressed three groups in late January. The first was to field education supervisors at a workshop Jan. 16-17 at St. John's Seminary in Boston, Mass., on the topic, "Effective Field Placements for a Diverse Seminary Population." The second was the keynote address at a consultation sponsored by the Center for Religion and Sexuality Jan. 19-22 at Del Ray Beach, Fla. The topic was "Reflections on the Seminary as the Context for Sexuality Education and Formation." Finally, she conducted a workshop for Jesuit faculty and students on "The Role of Religious Life in a Changing Church and Culture" Jan. 26 at Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Mass.
Dr. Fred Zimmerman, Graduate Programs in Engineering and Technology Management, gave a talk on Jan. 30 at the Minnesota Science Museum on "The History of Energy."
