Dr. Patrick Hicks, English Department, is the author of "Brian Moore's The Feast of Lupercal and the Constriction of Maculinity." The article appears in the current issue of New Hibernia Review.
Dr. Thomas Hickson, Geology Department, will give a presentation, "Investigating the Effects of Tectonically Induced Subsidence in the Experimental Earthscape Facility (Jurassic Tank)," at the Nov. 1-10 annual meeting of the Geological Society of America in Boston. Approximately 6,000 geoscientists from around the world are expected to attend.
Mark Jensen, Instructional Support Services, had his fine-art photograph, "Mike Lynch in His Studio," displayed at the Minnesota State Fair's arts exhibition. Jensen's photography recently was purchased by the Milwaukee Art Museum for inclusion in its permanent collection. His photographs of nonviolent civil disobedience are included in the recently released documentary film, "Bombies," by Canadian filmmaker Jack Silberman of Lumiere Productions.
The Rev. Jan Michael Joncas, Theology Department, has had his article, "Peter Abeaelard's Easter Hymns," published in the Proceedings of the North American Academy of Liturgy (2001, pages 94-107).
Dr. David Kelley, Geography Department, recently was awarded a grant by the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs to support student research. Kelley and his students will develop education materials for extension personnel working in wellhead protection zones to limit drinking-water contamination.
Dr. Mitchell Kusy, Organization Learning and Development Department, recently delivered a keynote address to leadership Coachella Valley in Palm Springs, Calif. the audience included executives from the desert communities in the Coachella Valley; organizations represented included both for-profit and nonprofit. Kusy spoke about the need for leaders to respond rapidly to organizational change and to adapt successful interventions.
Tim Scully and Julie Friedline, Communication Department, attended the Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota conference Sept. 21-22. Their presentation, "Media Production and Media Criticism: Taught and Explored Together," examined how educators can best teach production technologies within a communication context.
Dr. John Wendt, College of Business, recently was interviewed by the Deseret News regarding legal and marketing issues for the 2002 Winter Paralympic Games to be held March 7-16, 2002, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
