Megan Vetter
Megan Vetter, a St. Thomas senior studying international economics, and justice and peace, recently completed the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program, which pairs college students with Dallas-area nonprofits for eight-week internships. She was among 60 college students chosen to participate in the program. The nonprofit agencies received an extra pair of hands during the busy summer months, while the interns gained real-world experience and learned about the role of nonprofits in a community. Interns were paid for all time spent in the program through grants provided by the ExxonMobil Foundation. Vetter, a resident of Southlake, Tex., worked with Legacy Founders Cottage, which aims to provide affordable mental health care, counseling, services and special care housing to those in the North Texas area who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. She helped coordinate transportation assistance, housing arrangements and medical aid. She also organized a special project – the return of a client with AIDS to her native Africa after an 11-year separation from her son.
