Dr. Shirley Polejewski, Accounting Department, recently participated in a weeklong National Security Seminar sponsored by the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pa. Polejewski was one of approximately 150 business, government, media and academic leaders from across the country who took part in the seminar June 5-9. The five day seminar is the capstone of the 10-month curriculum at the Army War college, the Army's senior educational institution. Members of the class of 2000 included officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, foreign officers and senior civilian employees of the federal government. They met in small groups with seminar participants to discuss national security issues. While the principal purpose of the seminar is to permit War College students to hear "civilian viewpoints," it also gives participants an opportunity to meet and exchange views with the nation's future military leaders. A tour of Gettysburg also was part of the seminar. Featured speakers included retired Gen. B.R. McCaffrey, Ambassador Kenneth Adelman, Dr. R.H. Kohn and Ambassador Princeton Lymon. Maj. Gen. Robert Scales Jr., commandant of the Army War College, hosted the seminar.
Gregg Schneider, Small Business Development Center, recently served as a panelist at Energy Alley's "Green Chip Status," a daylong conference in Minneapolis on how Minnesota's high-tech, earth-saving industries are poised to cultivate the state's next entrepreneurial boom. The conference's goal was to educate the energy-related business sector on how to more effectively access financial capital for startup, growth and expansion.
