Professional Notes St. Thomas Newsroom March 1, 2005 Professional notesDr. Stephen Brookfield, School of Education, is the author of an article, "Racializing and Concretizing Gramsci in Adult Education Practice," published in the journal Interchange, Vol. 35, No. 3 (2004).Dr. Joseph Fitzharris, History Department, received the 2005 Moncado Prize from the Society for Military History on Feb. 26. The prize is presented for "an outstanding article published in the 68th volume of The Journal of Military History. Fitzharris’ article was titled "Field Officer Courts and U.S. Civil War Military Justice."Audrey Kintzi, Center for Nonprofit Management, was named the Outstanding Professional Fundraiser by the Minnesota chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. A fundraising professional for more than 20 years, she is chief advancement officer for the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley.Susan Marsnik, Legal Studies in Business Department, is co-author of a paper, "External Environment, Trust and East-West Trade," which has been accepted for publication in Ekonomika, a Central European business journal. In March, she will give a presentation, "Exceptions and Limitations in a Digital World: A Comparison of the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the EU Directive on Harmonization of Certain Aspects of Copyright and Related Rights in the Information Society," at the Association of Law Teachers’ annual conference in Edinburgh, Scotland. Marsnik also has been invited to present lectures on comparative digital copyright in the departments of International Studies and Legal Studies at the Dublin (Ireland) Institute of Technology. In November, she taught a short course on international digital copyright in a postgraduate law program at the Université de Poitiers in France, and will teach a course on international business law at the Institute of business Administration at the Université de Caen, also in France, this spring.Dawn Swink, Legal Studies in Business Department, has been selected to have her research presented at the annual Huber Hurst Research Seminar. Swink’s co-author, Jordan T.L. Halgas of California State University-Sacramento, presented "Same Old, Same Old, Not the Same: A Legal and Business Analysis of Same-Sex Marriage," at the University of Florida. The Warrington College of Business sponsors this research-intensive seminar. Each year, scholars in the legal studies in business field compete to be one of the 10 invited to present their work at the seminar.Dr. Fred Zimmerman, School of Engineering, was the keynote speaker for the St. Louis Park Kiwanis Club on Feb. 24. His address was titled "The Importance of Manufacturing to the Prosperity of the Country."
