Dr. Phil Anderson, Management Department, and co-author Bernice Kotey, University of New England, Armidale, Australia, are the authors of an article, "Comparing the Performance of Distance-Learning and Traditional Students in a Business Simulation Exercise," to be published in the Journal of Industry and Higher Education.
Dr. Joe Fitzharris, History Department, was appointed coordinator of the Society for Military History's Great Plains Region. Based on his ongoing work with the Northern Great Plains History conference, Fitzharris was given additional responsibilities within SMH for organizational advancement and publicity in the region.
Dr. Ellen Kennedy, Service-Learning, won a paper contest sponsored by the Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest. The contest was held commemorate the 350th anniversary of Jewish settlement in the United States. The topic was "How has freedom shaped the lives of Jewish families and Jewish communities in the Upper Midwest?" Kennedy's essay, "Lands of the Free," examined three generations of her family's history as Russian Jews in American and as American Jews on several trips to Russia. Kennedy will receive a cash prize and her paper will be published in the society's journal, Upper Midwest Jewish History. This is the second time that Kennedy has received this honor. Her previous first-place essay, "An Oasis in the Desert," about the establishment of a synagogue in the small town of Ishpeming, Mich., was published in the society's journal in 1997.
Dr. Anne Klejment, History Department, presented her 14-point proposal for improvement of American Catholic History Archives at a session, "Preservation and Publication: Archivists and Historians in Dialogue," to members of the American Catholic Historical Association and the American Historical Association at their winter meeting last month.
Dr. Steve Maurer, Personal Counseling and Testing, presented a workshop, "Professional Boundaries for Clergy," at the Jan. 20 interfaith conference, "Clergy Sexual Misconduct: Helping Survivors and Communities to Heal," co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis Office of Advocacy, the University of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine. The workshop focused on how clergy and other ministerial staff can develop and maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries.
