Dr. Shahid Alvi, Sociology Department,and is a co-author of "Perceived Collective Efficacy and Women's Victimization in Public Housing," published in the journal, Criminal Justice (Vol. 3, No. 1, February 2003, pages 5-27).

Dr. Thomas Carey, International Student Services, will present a workshop, "A Game Plan for Internationalizing a College Campus," at the annual conference of Community Colleges for International Development today in Tucson, Ariz. Topics will include rationale, support, advocacy, funding, faculty development, international students, internationalizing the curriculum, study abroad and other resources.

Gary Porter, Accounting Department, recently spoke about emerging issues in financial accounting at the annual meeting of the Georgia Association of Accounting Educators in Rome, Ga. The title of Porter's presentation was "Accounting Education in the New Millennium: How Has It Changed?"

Dr. Richard Raschio, Modern and Classical Languages Department, presented a paper, "Engaged Learning Across the Disciplines: The Ascension Parish Report," at the Hawaiian International Conference on the Arts and Humanities Jan. 14 in Honolulu. The print version of the paper, co-authored by Dr. Ellen Kennedy, Marketing Department, was accepted for publication in the conference proceedings. Raschio also participated on the planning board for the 2003 conference of the Central States Association on the Teaching of Freign Languages; the conference will be held next month in Minneapolis. Raschio is its assistant program director.
