UST Portal gets a speed boost

Since its launch on March 30, the demand for UST Portal has exceeded Information and Resources Technology’s initial estimates.

“It was a great problem to have,” said Jeremy Ahrens, application development manager, Web and Media Services. “We were excited to see that the portal was being used, but we knew we needed to fix the speed issues if we were going to continue to keep our constituents happy.”

IRT staff worked around the clock to fine-tune UST Portal to work more efficiently under the load that the community was putting on the system.

“After a little over two weeks of adjustments including IT quadrupling server resources dedicated to UST Portal, we are seeing a dramatic improvement in application speed. Now we can focus on making other enhancements that the user community has been asking for within the Portal feedback discussion groups,” said Liz Houle, director of Web and Media Services.

IRT encourages all students, faculty and staff to continue using the new portal and to continue reporting problems and discussing new enhancements.
