Please Remember in Your Prayers James Schaefer '77, '91 MIM

Please remember in your prayers graduate student James Schaefer, the father of two St. Thomas undergraduate students, a two-time alumnus and an active alumni volunteer.

Schaefer ’77 and ’91 MIM, died Friday, Feb. 6, in his Shoreview home. He was 59 and the father of Daniel Schaefer ’16, a junior, and Anthony Schaefer ’18, a freshman.

The St. Thomas Academy alumnus majored in German and political science at St. Thomas when it was a men’s college. He also earned a J.D. degree from William Mitchell College of Law and most recently was enrolled at St. Thomas in pursuit of a Master of Science in Software Management degree. He worked as a legal solutions and quality specialist at Thomson Reuters in Eagan.

Schaefer served on the St. Thomas Alumni Association board from 1997 to 2003 and was a regular participant in the First Friday luncheon series. He was on the then-Graduate School of Business board in the 1990s and received the school's Community Service Award in 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, in the Church of the Assumption, 305 E. 77th St., Richfield. Visitation was at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, and an hour before the service on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the University of St. Thomas.
