Philosophy Colloquium Series to feature Dr. Catherine Deavel on March 16

Dr. Catherine Deavel, Philosophy Department, will speak on “How Should a Privation Theorist Understand Physical Pain?” at the next philosophy colloquium from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 16, in the auditorium, Room 126, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts.

“One traditional philosophical view holds that evil is a privation,” says Deavel, “the lack of a proper good. But if one holds this position, what exactly is physical pain?” She will offer some Thomistic categories of evil and use these to classify the experience of physical pain.
