Phillips Scholarship offers $14,000 for community service involvement St. Thomas Newsroom May 4, 2000 Students who will be juniors in the 2000-2001 academic year may apply for a Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation Scholarship. The award includes a $5,000 junior-year scholarship, a $4,000 summer stipend for a summer 2001 self-designed community service project, and a $5,000 senior-year scholarship.St. Thomas students who meet the following requirements are eligible. Requirements include a commitment to and history of community service and helping disadvantaged people. In addition, applicants must demonstrate financial need and have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.Phillips Scholars design and initiate their own summer community service projects between their junior and senior years. Projects involve much more than volunteering. The summer community service projects include eight concentrated weeks of full-time service of approximately 40 hours per week.
