Online volunteer registration begins June 28 for UST's State Fair booth

Ah, the State Fair! For many, traditions include consuming the latest food-on-a-stick, visiting the butter heads, and taking in the Mighty Midway.

Judging from the many purple bag sightings in the Twin Cities and around the world, a visit to St. Thomas’ booth in the Education Building is another important tradition. The bags may be the first things to catch a visitor’s attention, but volunteers are the key to the university's connection with potential students, parents, alumni and other fair-goers.

Online registration to work at the booth begins Monday, June 28. Popular time slots fill up fast, so be sure to check Bulletin Today on June 28 for a link to the registration site, and sign up early to get your first-choice time slot. The fair dates are Thursday, Aug. 26, through Monday, Sept. 6.

All volunteers will receive an admission ticket. Those who volunteer to work during Labor Day weekend (noon Friday, Sept. 3, through Monday, Sept. 6) will receive two extra admission tickets.

For the seventh year in a row, more than 200 volunteers from the St. Thomas community will give away purple tote bags during the State Fair. This year, volunteers also will offer a second choice to fair-goers: a purple UST bandana. Giveaways are distributed in controlled amounts throughout the day. In addition to handing out bags and bandanas, volunteers will have the opportunity to share their knowledge and pride in St. Thomas with booth visitors and fellow volunteers.
