Four new members have joined the University of St. Thomas board of trustees:

  • Burton Cohen, president and publisher since 1978 of MSP Communications, publisher of Mpls.-St. Paul Magazine, Computer User, U.S. Art, TV2, and Twin Cities Business Monthly. He also serves on the boards of Catholic Digest, the Minnesota Independent School Fund, the Minnesota Zoo Foundation, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Minnesota Opera.
  • Sister Maureen Fay, O.P., president of University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan’s largest and most comprehensive Catholic university. The first female president of a Jesuit university, Fay led the consolidation of the Jesuits’ University of Detroit with Mercy College in 1990. She had been president of Mercy College since 1983.
  • The Rev. Bryan Massingale, a priest since 1983 of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, is associate professor of moral theology at St. Francis Seminary, where he was vice rector for four years. He also is a lecturer in theology at Marquette University and an adjunct associate professor of theology in the Institute for Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University of Louisiana.
  • Franklin Sunberg, co-founder and president of Portu-Sunberg & Associates, a Minneapolis distributor of seasonal products, school supplies and patio furniture through 650 outlets in the Midwest and mountain states. He received the university’s 1999 John F. Cade Award for excellence in entrepreneurship. He also serves on the UST Graduate School of Business board of advisers and is the parent of a St. Thomas graduate.
