New program director appointed at NIHP

The University of St. Thomas announced this week that Marie Dotseth has been appointed program director of its National Institute of Health Policy (NIHP) in the College of Business. "We are fortunate that Marie Dotseth has agreed to become our first full-time program director at this particular time," said NIHP Chair and former U.S. Sen. Dave Durenberger.

NIHP has just launched two nationally unique policy reform programs: a Medicare payment demo and a Medical Arms Race decision-making analysis. It also is considering a regional nonprofit accountability project, which together with other ongoing efforts like the States Health Summit, makes program leadership critical.

Dotseth brings a breadth of health care experience to her new role at NIHP. Most recently, she was the director of patient safety policy at Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. In this role, she was responsible for providing leadership for Children's patient safety policy agenda and represented Children's locally and nationally in quality improvement and patient safety collaboratives and organizations.

Dotseth also has experience at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), where she served as the senior policy adviser for patient safety and as an assistant to the commissioner and senior policy adviser.

Prior to her work at MDH, Dotseth served as the director of public policy for Allina Health System and as a biomedical engineer and a project engineer for the Veterans Health Administration.
