New in the Library: Digital images contributed to Minnesota Reflections Web database

The University of St. Thomas Archives contributed nearly 40 digital images to Minnesota Reflections, the initial project of the Minnesota Digital Library Coalition.

Ann Kenne, head of special collections and university archivist, selected the materials from the University Archives’ collection of more than 20,000 historic photographs and postcards of the University of St. Thomas, the St. Paul Seminary and St. Thomas Military Academy.

The UST images document the faculty, students, sports and activities of the college from its founding in 1885 through 1909. Catalogers Cathy Lutz and Jane Shriver were instrumental in the description of these images.

Minnesota Reflections compiles images from Minnesota’s first 50 years of statehood (1858-1909) from more than 50 participating historical societies, archives and libraries. The MDLC and participants digitized more than 6,000 unique photographs and images, collected the information on these images, and created a searchable database to help people access and use them.

The MDLC, professionals from libraries, archives, historical societies and museums across Minnesota, is creating a digital collection of the state’s unique resources and special collections. The Minnesota Digital Library supports education, scholarship and enrichment through Internet access to this collection. The MDLC provides a server and database environment and imaging support that is the technical foundation for current and future digitization activities.
