The College faculty voted in September 1997 to change the eligibility for graduation with honors. Recognizing that many current students were aware of the present requirements, these new guidelines will become effective for students graduating from May 2000 forward. These guidelines may be found on Page 36 in the 1998-2000 Undergraduate Catalog.
Students graduating with Latin honors in December 1999 are the last class to be included under the old guidelines. The Latin honors are:
- Cum laude — both UST and cumulative GPA (including all transfer work) between 3.400 and 3.599.
- Magna cum laude — both UST and cumulative GPA (including all transfer work) between 3.600 and 3.799.
- Summa cum laude — both UST and cumulative GPA (including all transfer work) 3.800 or higher. This category also requires the student to sit for an honors oral examination and be judged “outstanding” by that committee. Guidelines for the summa oral examination are available from the Office of the Dean of the College, Room 120, Aquinas Hall.
