Music at St. Thomas in May features recitals and more

The University of St. Thomas Music Department welcomes the public to the music performances listed below. All will be held on the university's St. Paul campus unless listed otherwise. Admission is free.

Important note: May is “recitals month” for many students, and best-laid recital plans often change as artists prepare for their big performances. If you plan to attend a student recital, please double-check with the performer or with the Music Department, (651) 962-5850, to check for schedule changes.

  • 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Student Eric Nehring gives a guitar recital.
  • 8:15 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas: The UST Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, conducted by Dr. Angela Broeker, give a spring concert, “Mini Masterpieces, an Evening of Classics,” featuring works by Josquin, Bach, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Brahms, Britten, Bernstein and Whitacre. Dr. Robert Vickery is accompanist. Admission is free, but donations will be taken for Simpson Housing Services, a Minneapolis nonprofit organization that services the city’s homeless people.
  • 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Student Mary Larson gives a voice recital.
  • 6 p.m. Saturday, May 5, in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas: Student Tobbyn Smith- Hanen gives a voice recital.
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in The O’Shaughnessy auditorium at the College of St. Catherine, 2004 Randolph Ave., St. Paul: A UST Bands concert presents the UST Symphonic Band, conducted by Dr. Douglas Orzolek, and the university’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Matthew George. The concert will feature the world premiere of “Mass of St. Thomas Aquinas” by English composer Martin Ellerby.
  • 8 p.m. Monday, May 7, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: St. Thomas’ Jazz Combo and Saxophone Ensemble give a spring concert.
  • 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in Our Lady of Victory at the College of St. Catherine: Student Maureen Degnan gives a voice recital.
  • 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: St. Thomas’ Instrumental Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Singers give a spring concert.
  • 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas: Student Christine Prokop gives an organ recital.
  • 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: The St. Thomas Guitar Ensemble gives a spring concert.

  • 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in Brady Educational Center auditorium: Student Amy Gleason gives a piano recital.
